A Little Something about Love
“These three remain, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these
is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13). Naturally, so considering that love is the very
nature of God. In fact, no other religion makes such a claim—that “God is love
(1 John 4:8). All love ultimately comes from God (John 1:3). Jesus once said,
“greater love hath a man than this; that a man lay own his life for his
friends” (John 15.13). We find this supreme manifestation of love in Christ who
laid down his life for me and for you (John 3:16, Galatians 2:20).
Truly, Truly, Truly, there has been no greater love than the Love of God, the
Love of Christ. Who obeyed God in unfeigned love, who said “father forgive them
for they know not what they do”
They hung him high
They stretched him wide
He hung his head
For me he died,
That’s love (“No Greater Love”).
“Love so amazing, so divine, that it truly demands our life, our all” (Watts).
“Yet that is not how the story ends, because three days later he rose
again—that’s love” (“No greater Love”)
So his love compels us to emulate Him. Who he recreates us into his image, “like
father, like son.” (Galatians 5.22, 1 John 4.17). God’s word commands us to love
in deed and in truth, the truth of his love for us (1 John 3.11, 1 John 3.16).
Therefore, let us remember those around us, how much God loves them and has
loved us and proved Himself over and over (Stead). And, let us remember that God
corrects those he loves. So keep your hearts and minds open to His words of
wisdom by remaining in communion with Him through the Spirit, who will lead us
into all truth (John 15.25, 16.13). Let brotherly love continue to all in deeds
of kindness, that others may come to know the Truth through us (1 John).
