Double-Minded

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.  But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”  St. James,  circa 49 A.D[1].

A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.  This man is double-minded because his heart is divided.  He seeks the Lord, and he seeks something or someone else.  This man knows and loves God every Sunday morning and “brings a song[2]”, but the rest of the week he forsakes him.  There was time when he loved God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength, but he slowly stepped away[3].  The word of God ceases to be planted and cease to grow in his heart because weeds were planted and it choked it, and the ground dried and hardened[4].  His “senses are shot.”  He feels dead inside.  He compromised…

For a time we stuck with the shepherd
but you wouldn't play Santa Claus.

sigh.
Let's be blunt.
We're a little distracted.
What do you want?

Once we could follow,
now we cannot.
You would not fit our image,
so we lost the plot.

Once we could hear you,
now our senses are shot.
We've forgotten our first love.
We have lost the plot
.[5]

He looses balance, and he falls.  He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.  He sought to please both God and Baal[6].  But this man does not stay down, he becomes sorrowful, for he is controlled by the Spirit because the Spirit lives in him[7] .  He realizes the truth[8].   That he must forsake Baal.  Though he took many steps away, it took only one to return.  Now, he must do what he does not want to do, and do not what he wishes to do[9].  He no longer lives by the flesh, but by the Spirit[10].  His solutions, “submit to God, and resist the devil.[11]”    He transforms through the renewing of his mind, he becomes stable as he pursues his first love[12].  He becomes able to test God’s will[13].  His obtains life and peace[14].  He no longer feels dead inside.  Jesus delivers him[15].  He returns to the “heart of worship2”.
