Sharing Your Pearls
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3.15).
Have you ever tried to share your hope with someone only to have it mocked and disrespected? Jesus is the embodiment of your hope. And he tought us to show this hope this light that we have so that everyone may see and praise God. He said, “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. How can we show our good deeds and let our light shine so that it will be praised and not mocked?
Our hope is like the pearl of great price where a man found it and was willing to give all that he had so that he could possess it. Jesus taught this parable saying,
44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. (Mathew 13)
We Believers see the value of the Kingdom of Heaven and how it is worth more than anything to us and how joyful it was to have this Pearl of Great Price through the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. He became the treasure that we seek, our all in all (praise song; Jesus Lamb of God). Like many other Christians, this writer as had their pearls mocked and trampled in the mud by ungodly, unbelievers who were vicious and disrespectful, they had no fear of God before their eyes. Jesus warned us about such pigs and dogs (symbols of unholiness). "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces (Matthew 7.6). This is the key, we should only share with those unbelievers that will not destroy our pearls, for be warned, there are many who live to do so. When it becomes clear that your are witnessing to such people, then dust off your feet (forget about them) and look else where to share your hopes, pearls, and light to the lost and dying world. The world is dark and blind, but your light can help them see if they are willing to come into the light (John 1.9; 3.19-21; Mark 6.11).
